Dear Sweetwater Families,

Welcome back! My name is D.D. Carr and I am so excited to introduce myself as the new principal of Sweetwater Elementary School. I am honored to have been selected to join the Sweetwater team and continue my work within the Washington Elementary School District, which is dedicated to excellence, but more importantly, to children.

Over the past 21 years, I have worked as a teacher and administrator, but I consider my most important job to be that of a child and family advocate. My goal is to ensure that all children are healthy, happy, physically safe, and emotionally safe so they may learn as much as they can. This has been my philosophy since I began my career and will continue as we navigate these new educational paths and virtual learning.

In case you are new to Sweetwater, we are a Leader in Me school! The Sweetwater Mission is “Everyone accepting challenges with high expectations, creating the leaders of today and tomorrow”. As a Leader In Me school, we help students find their strengths and unleash their potential to guide their own lives and influence others in a positive way. The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People is utilized in every aspect of our teaching and truly, “Great Leaders Grow Here”!

Our goal is to have 100% of our families able to safely learn about the upcoming school year. In lieu of our traditional Meet the Teacher & Curriculum Night event, information will be provided virtually and will be available beginning on Friday August 7th. You can access this information through teachers’ Google Sites (see teacher directory at ). Teachers will also be reaching out to families during the week prior to the start of school so we ask that you update your phone and email information with the office if there have been any changes. We believe that the ability to have information available virtually will allow you the safety and flexibility to receive the information when it works for your family’s schedule.

School begins virtually Monday, August 10th and virtual learning will occur between the school hours of 7:30 a.m. and our dismissal time of 2:30 p.m. for all grade levels, kindergarten through eighth grade. Early release occurs every Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. Student instruction will include a combination of live instruction and self-paced work assignments. Please see for videos, resources, and additional information. I look forward to working with you and your family as we help our students have a wonderful and successful school year.
